Relationships and Music

Saw this wonderful quote from Skye Linh today that said "Being single is so much better than being cheated on, lied to and disrespected."It parallels this other axiom about success which states "In life, you don't get what you deserve. You get what you negotiate for."We're often bound by our own fears and insecurities: fear of being alone, embarrassed to ask for things, fear of being rejected, or the unknown. Fear of making the wrong move instead of being confident and courageous.

But these things often begin with having a clear vision and set a of values to guide you. Knowing what you deserve, understanding what a healthy relationship/business/art looks like. Begin by negotiating with yourself so you don't accept anything less than what you think is worth fighting for.Whether it is friendships, family, romance, or the workplace, I've found that the healthiest approach has been the same way that I approach my art: Do the notes need to be there? Is it the right time? How can it add harmony, excitement, or feeling to the overall composition I'm trying to create?Sometimes, it's OK to remove the notes that don't fit. And sometimes, it's OK to distance us from those who drag us down so we can better focus on the ones that we really want to keep. Whether it's relationships or the parts of a song, quality always wins out over quantity.
